Celebrating Golden Bear Excellence at the 2026 Alumni Awards

Annually, Western New England University (WNE) welcomes alumni, family, friends, University leadership, as well as faculty and staff to celebrate the achievements of an exceptional group of alumni.

The ceremony recognized individuals whose professional accomplishments, community impact, and dedication to WNE exemplify the strength of the University’s alumni network. The evening showcased the diverse paths WNE graduates pursue and the meaningful ways they continue to stay connected and give back. Notably, several past Alumnus of the Year Award recipients were also in attendance — Colleen Loveless ’84/G’93 (2016), Ken Rickson ’75 (2022), and John Turgeon ’83 (2023) — highlighting the enduring legacy of those honored.

WNE’s seventh President, Dr. Joseph C. Hartman, emphasized the vital role of people in shaping the University. “It’s the faculty and staff together with students,” he shared, “but the alumni play an equally important role…raising us up in ways we may not even think about.” He encouraged the evening’s honorees to continue their engagement, reinforcing the importance of alumni in supporting future generations.

Opening the night was the Young Alumni Outstanding Achievement Award. Klaire Bielonko ’17, who graduated summa cum laude in Business Analytics and Information Management and now serves as senior manager of AI Operations at RTX Collins Aerospace, was recognized for her leadership, service, and continued involvement with WNE, including mentoring students and serving on the College of Business Advisory Board.

Reflecting on her journey, Bielonko shared that “life is often shaped by a handful of pivotal moments,” highlighting how small decisions—like choosing her major or attending a career fair—helped define her path. Grounded in lessons of persistence and service, she emphasized that “one conversation, one mentor, one class…can change your life forever.”

Building on that theme of growth and connection, the Alumni Achievement Award was presented to Laura Sturgis Boulé ’01/G’02. A member of the women’s lacrosse team and Class of 2001 valedictorian, Boulé went on to earn her MBA, and now serves as vice president of Residential Asset & Property Management at Nordblom Company, leading multifamily housing initiatives across Massachusetts. She was recognized not only for her professional success but also for her enduring commitment to WNE as a coach, advisor, and challenge host during #WNEgives, the university’s annual day of giving.

In her remarks, Boulé credited her parents and the WNE community for instilling the importance of hard work, integrity, and surrounding oneself with “good people.” She described attending WNE as “one of the best decisions” of her life and underscored that true leadership is rooted in collaboration, mentorship, and helping others succeed.

Concluding the evening, the Michael A. Serafino Alumnus of the Year Award was presented to Steven Tremblay ’87/G’91, honoring his distinguished career and steadfast dedication to the University. After more than 38 years in the aerospace and defense industry, including leadership roles at EY and a return to RTX, Tremblay remains an active alumnus, trustee, and supporter of WNE, demonstrating a deep philanthropic commitment through his ongoing generosity and investment in the University’s future.

Tremblay emphasized the values instilled by his family, particularly that “giving is always better than receiving.” Reflecting on his lifelong connection to WNE, he shared, “I stepped on this campus at 17 years old, and I’ve never left,” describing giving back as “the highest privilege of being a Golden Bear.” He encouraged others to “lean in” to opportunities to serve and mentor, reinforcing the impact of community engagement.

Together, the honorees’ reflections underscored a shared message: that success is shaped by community, mentorship, and a commitment to giving back—values that continue to define the spirit of Western New England University.
