Momentum for the Future: Embracing Growth and Opportunity
As winter approaches, I reflect with gratitude on the incredible momentum our WNE community has built this past year. It has been a season of growth and innovation, setting the stage for even greater achievements.
This fall, we welcomed our largest and most diverse first-year class. These talented students are already making their mark, embodying the spirit of curiosity, collaboration, and leadership that defines WNE. Our faculty and staff continue to deliver transformative, hands-on learning experiences that prepare students for the future of work.
We are also excited to announce the completion of the Kevin S. Delbridge Career Center, a dynamic hub for students, faculty, and the community to collaborate. Thanks to the unwavering support of Kevin S. Delbridge ’77/H’19 and his wife Sandra E. Delbridge, this new facility will nurture the entrepreneurial spirit at the heart of WNE, providing key resources for student success beyond graduation.
Our Golden Bears have had a remarkable athletics season, demonstrating dedication and sportsmanship. Senior Matt Provost clocked a historic 8K cross country run, four teams reached the Conference of New England (CNE) tournament, and three of them – men’s soccer, field hockey, and volleyball– made it to the semifinal round. Men’s soccer finished up their home slate with a thrilling tournament victory in penalty kicks to advance, while volleyball’s 21-8 overall record was their best winning percentage in over a decade. Their achievements both on and off the field, reflect the balance we strive for between academics and extracurricular excellence.
Finally, I want to extend my sincere thanks to our alumni - especially the more than 1,000 of you I met during Golden Bear Weekend. Your mentorship, support, and contributions to scholarships have made a real difference in the lives of our students. As we look ahead to 2025, I am confident that our collective efforts will propel WNE to even greater heights.
Thank you for being a vital part of the WNE family. I wish you a joyful holiday season and look forward to connecting in the coming year.
With gratitude,
Robert E. Johnson, PhD
